The majority of my clients are established in their business. They’ve built a product, service or brand and now they are ready to be known. They want to be seen as the go-to expert and sought out and found by potential clients or customers because of who they are what they’ve done. So just paying attention to the news cycle and what is happening in it, can easily allow you to be in the media regularly. I talk about it all the time but mastering newsjacking is the easiest thing you can do. Here’s a video I did on this:

Hi, everyone. It’s Christina Daves with this week’s Free Publicity Friday PR Tip.
I just wrapped up speaking at BMW,
which was amazing talking to a lot of entrepreneurs and business owners.
And what I found is people just don’t know how to go get to that next step.
You know, they’re established, but they want to be known.
And that’s where media comes in.
By knowing the types of stories you could pitch the media today,
it positions you in a way that you can be that person in the media on a regular basis,
be the expert in your industry, and really be seen with more authority and more credibility.
So it’s really important to understand the news cycle and what’s happening in the news today.
We call it newsjacking. I talk about it all the time.
But what’s trending in the news?
I had a client who owns an HVAC company in Dallas,
and he took advantage of the heat wave, which was all across the country,
and supply chain issues. And his business is in Dallas,
but he was quoted all over the US.
So look at what’s happening in the news
What’s trending, seasonality.
We’ve got back to school right now. I talked about that last week,
but look at what’s happening in the news,
the economy. I prefer to stay away from politics,
but if that’s your industry, you could talk about that.
But see what is happening, dot com. What are people saying on these media outlets?
What are people talking about on Twitter? What’s happening on TikTok?

So listen to what’s happening online and use that to pitch your stories.
And that will help you land in the media and help you really go from established to known.
