Many people think of PR as something that is only when you are in crisis… that the PR spin machine has to start when things are spiraling negatively. Yes, that is one component of PR and there are PR professionals who specialize in this area. But PR is an opportunity to share the good things in your company as well. What major accomplishments have you achieved? What are you doing for the community? How are you changing the world? And then there is positioning you an expert in your industry where you can regularly be featured in the media.

There are so many ways to position you as an industry expert that you might never have to deal with crisis PR and can just be the go-to person in your industry. I like to call the PR I help people get as, the “rah-rah” PR. I like the happy, feel-good side of it, the fun side. How can we show what you are doing in the best light? How can you make a difference in the world?

Hopefully, you never have to deal with crisis PR and know that if you do, you can find a specialized PR person to help you through it. However, you can start today with positive PR as well as positioning yourself as an expert and you can continue to land in the media and become known in your space and let your voice be heard.

Hi, everyone. It’s Christina Daves with this week’s Free Publicity Friday PR Tip. I’m still debunking myths. So now I want to talk about that you only need PR when you’re in crisis. And that’s not true. And I’ll tell you why in a minute.

But beforehand, make sure that you subscribe to our YouTube channel and ring the bell so that you’ll be notified of these. But, yeah, PR and crisis, there’s obviously a need for that.

But if you only get PR when you’re in crisis, that’s all anyone’s is going to know about you. I always joke, I don’t like the crisis part. I refer that out. I have a lot of colleagues who are experts in that. I’m your rah rah girl. I love happy PR, good PR. What’s a good story about people in your company, things that you’re doing? It doesn’t have to be bad all the time. Your PR doesn’t have to be only when you’re a crisis. Think about the positive stories, the great things you do in the community, the great things you do for your employees, and stories that you can tell that add value to a journalist, to a media outlet’s audience. That’s the key… value…. good, great things. So you can have PR when you’re not in crisis.
