I had no idea how important mindset was when pitching the media until I really dove deep with myself and now with my clients. I remember the first time I pitched, I was a nervous wreck! I was so awful on the phone call, I didn’t get the segment. But then, as my confidence in what I was doing grew, that confidence came through in my pitches and my follow up and with that, came more yeses.
We just wrapped up our Get PR Famous event and the underlying theme was how we helped them come out of their comfort zone and believe they can be in the media. By helping them with mindset and confidence, their pitches were stronger and they started getting yeses. I keep getting emails from attendees about all the interviews they are landing – yay!
So step 1 is mindset, and then step two is how to pitch. Make sure you know the Get PR Famous Formula and how to use it. Watch this 1:15 minute video that goes through it step by step. By knowing how to do this, you’ll have much better success and that will help your mindset the more yesses you get!
Get PR Famous Formula
It’s being newsworthy (think newsjacking – what’s happening in the media right now that you can speak about), creating great hooks (look at magazine covers), and finding the RIGHT journalist (hello Google!). Hey everybody. It’s Christina Daves with this week’s Free Publicity Friday PR Tip. This week, I want to talk about mindset. I’ve never talked about that before.
We just got back from our Get PR Famous event in Dallas, which was amazing. But one of the underlying themes of our attendees was that this was a big step for them to come out of their comfort zone to do this and pitch the media. But what happened was, is we pitched the media and they saw immediate results. One client, literally hit send and heard right back from the journalist and got an interview the following week when she got back. We had two people who went on national radio tours. One of them was today, and actually she had seven interviews across the country. It was amazing. Then I got an email last night from one of our attendees who has gotten four articles in the last two weeks just by doing this.
But all of these people, when I watched their recordings, because we ask people to do testimonials about the event, they all talked about how this event helped them come out of their comfort zone and doing these things and then the aha’s and the Wow’s once they land in the media. So I just want you to do it! Just do it! Just start. I have so many resources. Look at the Get PR Famous Formula. It works. It’s a three-step process. You want to be newsworthy, create great hooks, find the right journalist. When you do that, it happens. Magic will happen. We actually also, as part of this, our VIPs met with the former executive producer of The Today Show and when she went through their pitches, she just had minor tweaks and little things.
But you know, these people who are so nervous about it could end up on morning television. The pitches were unbelievable. So you all have a story inside of you that’s ready to be told. So I want you to just do it, Get out of your comfort zone. Hit send. Pitch the media. Follow-up. Follow the process, and then see the amazing results. So do this and share it with me because I cannot wait to see you in the media.
