I’m sure by now you’ve heard of Clubhouse, the new, hot social media platform that is strictly audio. What a blessing it was to have had that during Covid. You could go in, network, engage, and not have to worry about what you were wearing or if you’d even brushed your teeth that morning.
We also now have Twitter Spaces, and Facebook is testing its own audio platform. What do these platforms have to do with public relations? Not only can you go into the rooms and ask questions that position you as an expert in your field, you can also be interviewed in rooms, and… there are tons of journalists hanging out in there too. Check out PR and media groups and start listening and paying attention to what the journalists are looking for.
My platform is all about creating value and being in these rooms allows you to provide value on your industry and your expertise and allows you to provide value to journalists when you find where they are hanging out.
A note of caution though… it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole in Clubhouse. I’ve done it many times. I recommend being specific and targeted with where you want to be and what is best for your time spent. Find the journalists, find the media rooms, and spend a little time in there and see if its valuable for you. Also, if you can identify where your ideal clients/customers are hanging out, I recommend spending a little bit of time in those rooms too.

Hi everyone. It’s Christina Daves with this week’s Free Publicity Friday PR Tip. This week, I want to talk to you about the new online
audio social media platforms. Before I do that, make sure you subscribe to the YouTube channel. Ring the bell so you get all of these videos every week that we put out.
But these audio platforms really exploded during Covid. You know, we were all… who was wearing makeup? Not me! We’re all in our sweats. We were hanging out in these audio platforms that were a great place to go and connect with people. So Clubhouse is definitely the big one and Twitter Spaces is really starting to take off. What I want you to do though, is because you can go down a rabbit hole in these, I’ve done it. I’ve been there. But there are a lot of great places where you can connect with media, especially on Clubhouse. There are media groups, PR groups. They have weekly sessions. You can go in there. You can hear what’s happening in the media. You can hear from journalists the types of pitches that they want to get, how they want to get it. And hopefully if you’re in enough rooms with enough of the same journalists, you’re going to start to connect and build relationships with them.
So check out Clubhouse for sure, for that. I just have started to dabble in Twitter Spaces. I’ve done a couple with people who invited me to but it is the up-and-coming thing, you know, video is great, but you’ve got to be done for video. You don’t have to have a professional come and do It but you have to be at a different level. Where audio, and sometimes it’s nice to have that anonymity of being able to just speak what you want to say.
