In business today it’s vital that you share your story. People want to know who they are working with. They want to understand who that person is and why the person does what they do. Sharing your story allows potential clients and customers to relate with you. It’s also something the media can use in their story – your story. It gives them more background and make their segment, interview, story have deeper meaning and connection.

I started PR for Anyone because I had invested in an “expert” who took me for $27,000. I was broke, scared, knew nothing about mass selling a product so I had to figure it out. I taught myself a system on how to land in the media because every time my product was featured somewhere, I sold more and got more recognition and visibility. I still have people talking about when I was on the Steve Harvey Show. I was exposed to millions and when I tell the story of how I won his top inventor’s competition, they actually remember seeing it. People love story. I went from rock bottom and dead broke to landing on the Steve Harvey Show.

My story gets better when I hustled and wasn’t afraid to ask and Diana Ross wore my product when she sang for President Obama at Christmas in Washington. Again, this just upped my credibility and the quality of the product when Diana Ross wears it when she sings for the President of the United States.

I went back to Steve Harvey and told them about it and this is what happened:

This is the perfect example of why your story matters and why the media cares. I was able to expand on my story with something WOW and exciting and Steve Harvey covered it again. Your story matters! Make sure you tell it. People do want to hear it and they’d rather here who you are and why you do what you do than what you sell.

What’s Your Why?

I don’t think there is really anyone out there who is doing what they do just to get rich. We all have reasons of why we went into the field we’re in, why we transitioned into this industry, why we want to help people in our marketplace. That “why” is what is intriguing to the media, and also what creates connection with your customers or clients. Whether it’s your business, your non-profit, sports, activities, hobbies, how you were raised, everyone has a story and a why. It’s time for you to share it with the world.

I did this video recently to help you discover your why:

Everybody has a story. Everybody has a “why.” Why do you do what you do? But your story as to why you are doing the work that you’re doing is what the media loves. It’s not just ,and you can watch the media you’ll see it, it’s not just a sales pitch about you or your business.

When you can tell a story you relate to people. You relate to their audience and it’s really important in your business in general, as well as pitching the media that you really formulate your story. And you share it with the world because people want to work with people. The media wants to use people that their audience can relate to. And by having that story and sharing it with the world, you will be media ready.
