Take Action as Your Own PR Specialist

Happy New Year!!! As good as 2020 was for business… it couldn’t end soon enough. We had virtual school, a virtual graduation, and now a child living at home working virtually. This IS our new normal and it will stay this way for quite some time. I believe businesses will go back, at least partially, but this virtual world isn’t going anywhere. That goes the same for media pitching. I want you to become your own PR specialist. You CAN do this!!! You just need to learn the process.

PR for Anyone

I’ve got an easy 3-step process I teach through PR for Anyone. It’s being newsworthy, creating a great hook, and finding the RIGHT journalist. With all three in place, you WILL have success! I did this video that walks you through it. It really is this simple and we have success story after success story from people who follow the system.

This week, I talk about how you can become your own PR Strategist. Most of us cannot afford a good PR firm. They will run you about $5,000-$10,000/month, with three month minimums and no guarantees. You can do this in-house. Either you can do it yourself or train someone in your office to do it. You can even outsource it. This must become part of your daily marketing routine.

There is no other way you can get thousands, tens of thousands, even millions of people to learn about your business. Imagine what it would do for your business to a) be seen in the media by potential clients and b) it becomes a marketing tool that you can use to get yourself in front of potential clients.

Whether you are pitching local media, regional media, or national media, the system works. Find what’s trending online and pitch that. Trust me, the journalists know what people are talking about. What’s all the buzz on Twitter? What’s happening in the world that you can comment on? By positioning yourself as an industry expert, the media will want to use you.

To that end, make sure you check out on line. If a journalists Googles you (which they will), do you check out? What do they find? Does your website, LinkedIn profile and any other social media platforms you use show your expertise? Are you creating and sharing content regularly about your expertise? Are you positioning yourself as the “A-lister” or rockstar in your industry?

Open a private tab in your browser and Google yourself. Are you happy with the results? Remember that anyone who works with you and/or any journalist who is going to use you as a source is going to do that. What do they see. When I train large groups on doing this, I have people find an accountability partner and they do this for each other. I try to pair people who don’t know one another so they get a real outsider perspective. Ask someone to check you out and give you feedback.
