For decades, we were told that our most important years were behind us by the time we hit 50.

That reinvention was for younger people. That starting something new was risky. That this stage of life was about slowing down, not stepping forward.

And yet, everything we are seeing right now tells a completely different story.

Women over 50 are one of the fastest-growing groups of entrepreneurs in the United States. Not only are they starting businesses at higher rates, but they are building meaningful, purpose-driven companies that are changing industries, communities, and lives.

I recently had the opportunity to talk about this on FOX5 with Marissa Mitchell, and it confirmed what I have been seeing every single day through my podcast, Living Ageless and Bold, and through my own community.

This is not a trend. This is a movement.

And if you are a woman over 50 wondering what your next chapter could look like, this might just be your moment.

The Confidence Shift That Changes Everything

One of the biggest reasons women over 50 are stepping into entrepreneurship is confidence.

Not the kind of confidence we were trying to build in our 20s or 30s. This is different.

This is the kind of confidence that comes from experience.

By the time we reach this stage of life, we have lived through careers, raised families, navigated challenges, and handled situations that younger versions of ourselves could not have imagined.

We have heard no. We have failed. We have succeeded. We have learned.

And something shifts.

We stop worrying so much about what people think. We stop waiting for permission. We stop needing everything to be perfect before we begin.

That alone changes everything.

Because once you are no longer held back by fear of judgment, you become unstoppable.

Decades of Experience Become Your Greatest Asset

There is a misconception that starting a business requires starting from scratch.

That could not be further from the truth for women over 50.

You are not starting from zero. You are starting from experience.

Think about everything you have done over the past 30 years. Your career, your skills, your relationships, your life experiences. All of it matters.

All of it translates.

Whether you spent years in corporate, stayed home raising children, ran a household, volunteered, or built a career in any field, you have developed skills that are incredibly valuable.

Communication. Leadership. Problem solving. Resilience. Emotional intelligence.

These are not just life skills. These are business skills.

And the most successful women I have interviewed on Living Ageless and Bold are not trying to reinvent themselves from nothing. They are building on what they already know and turning it into something new.

Purpose Becomes the Driving Force

What stands out the most when I talk to women over 50 who are starting businesses is this.

They are not just doing it for money.

They are doing it for purpose.

There is something incredibly powerful about reaching a stage in life where you start asking different questions.

What do I really want to do
What impact do I want to have
What matters to me now

Many women I have interviewed have shifted into fields like mental health, wellness, coaching, education, and service-based businesses.

They are taking their experiences and using them to help others.

And that purpose becomes fuel.

It gives their business meaning. It gives their work depth. It keeps them going when things get hard.

This is not just about building a business. It is about building a life that feels aligned.

The Empty Nest Effect

For many women, this shift happens when children leave home.

The empty nest can feel overwhelming at first. It is a major life transition. For years, your identity may have been deeply tied to being a parent.

And suddenly, everything changes.

But what I am seeing is that more and more women are using this transition as a turning point instead of an ending.

They are asking, now what

And instead of shrinking, they are expanding.

They are going back to school. Getting certifications. Starting businesses. Launching podcasts. Writing books. Building brands.

They are rediscovering who they are outside of the roles they have held for decades.

And that rediscovery is powerful.

Technology Has Leveled the Playing Field

One of the biggest reasons this movement is happening right now is access.

We are living in a time where you no longer need massive capital, a large team, or years of infrastructure to start a business.

You need an idea, a willingness to learn, and the ability to take action.

Tools like AI and ChatGPT have completely changed the game.

I talk about this often because I have seen firsthand how powerful it is.

You can take your idea and ask
Can this be a business
Who is my target audience
How do I make money from this
What should my marketing look like

And you can continue refining until it feels right.

You can build a business plan, create content, outline offers, and test ideas faster than ever before.

Social media gives you a platform. The internet gives you reach. AI gives you support.

The barriers that once stopped people are no longer the same.

You Already Have a Network

Another advantage women over 50 have is relationships.

You have spent decades building connections, both personally and professionally.

That network matters.

These are people who can give feedback, refer you to others, support your ideas, and even become your first customers.

You can test ideas in ways that are simple and low risk.

Invite friends over. Have conversations. Ask questions. Get honest feedback.

When I started a business years ago, I created anonymous questionnaires because I wanted real answers, not polite ones.

You can do the same.

You do not need everything to be perfect. You just need to start gathering information and learning.

You Are More Resilient Than You Think

If there is one thing women over 50 have, it is resilience.

You have handled things that would have stopped you years ago.

You know how to pivot. You know how to adapt. You know how to keep going.

That is exactly what entrepreneurship requires.

There will be challenges. There will be setbacks. There will be moments where things do not go as planned.

But you are not starting from a place of inexperience.

You are starting from a place of strength.

And that gives you an incredible advantage.

Real Stories That Prove It Is Possible

One of my favorite parts of hosting Living Ageless and Bold is sharing real stories.

Women who decided to start later and are now thriving.

One story that has stayed with me is a woman named Jenny McCall.

At 61, she could not do a single pull-up. She had no athletic background.

But she decided she wanted to be strong.

She started training.

And over time, she became so strong that she went on to compete on American Ninja Warrior and set a Guinness World Record in her 70s.

Think about that.

She did not start in her 20s. She started in her 60s.

And she achieved something most people would never even attempt.

That is what is possible when you decide to begin.

Getting Out of Your Own Way

One of the biggest barriers is not external.

It is internal.

We talk ourselves out of things before we even try.

We question whether we are too old. Too late. Too inexperienced in something new.

But the truth is, the only way to know is to start.

Your first version will not be perfect. Mine was not.

My podcast has evolved so much from where it began. My content has changed. My messaging has grown.

But none of that would have happened if I had waited until everything was perfect.

You learn by doing.

You grow by showing up.

This Is Your Time

If there is one message I want every woman over 50 to hear, it is this.

You are not behind.

You are not too late.

You are right on time.

This stage of life is not about shrinking. It is about expanding.

It is about taking everything you have learned and using it to create something new.

Whether that is a business, a passion project, a new career, or a completely different path, it is yours to define.

We are not invisible.

We are powerful. We are experienced. We are capable.

And we are just getting started.

Where to Start

If you are thinking about starting something, begin here.

Start with what you know
Start with what you love
Start with what people already come to you for

Ask yourself what problem you can solve or who you can help.

Use the tools available to you. Explore ideas. Talk to people. Test things.

And most importantly, take action.

Because the only difference between the women who are doing it and the ones who are still thinking about it is this.

They started.
