Vacations are a dream for many, but accessibility poses a significant hurdle for people with disabilities like Lorraine Woodward and her two sons, who are all diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Driven by their own experiences, the Woodwards took matters into their own hands and built their very own wheelchair accessible vacation home by the beach.
When the family wasn’t enjoying their seaside haven, they generously opened its doors as a rental to others in need. To their delight, guests facing similar challenges found solace in their beach home and it sold out immediately.
Lorraine then recognized the growing demand for accommodations catering to individuals who are differently abled. This realization inspired her to create “Becoming rentABLE” and assume the role of its CEO. Originally a TV show, it has now blossomed into a comprehensive platform that advocates for inclusive accessibility in short-term rentals worldwide, going beyond the confines of wheelchair accessibility.
