It’s almost October. What are you going to pitch the media in October? So much to consider like the season – it’s fall – what happens in your industry in fall? Also, think about what month it is beyond National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s Invisible Disabilities Month, Disabilities in the Workplace Month, National Bullying Prevention Month, National Cookie Month, National Book Month, National Dessert Month, and National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
What to do with Media Appearances
You’ve landed in the media. Now what? I hear from people who were on TV and they’re excited and they want it to live on forever. I was on Steve Harvey’s show in 2010 – twelve years ago – and it’s still on the forefront of what i promote.
Best Tailgating Recipes
It’s football season! One of my most favorite times of the year! We’ve been hosting tailgates for close to 20 years and every year it gets better and better. I’ve been doing these tailgating segments annually on Good Morning Washington and it’s usually my favorite products but this year I went with some of our favorite tailgating recipes.
Pitching News Today
The majority of my clients are established in their business. They’ve built a product, service or brand and now they are ready to be known. They want to be seen as the go-to expert and sought out and found by potential clients or customers because of who they are what they’ve done. So just paying attention to the news cycle and what is happening in it, can easily allow you to be in the media regularly.
Back to School Media Pitches
Most kids went back to school this week and it’s a great time to position yourself as an expert and start pitching the media! Think about what value you can bring to kids or parents and this goes from pre-school through college.
Positioning Yourself as a Media Expert
People understand the value of being in the media but more often than not, people are just trying to “sell” the media by putting in their product, service or brand without thinking of the bigger picture and the bigger impact they can make. Yes, you could be a one-hit wonder with one segment about YOU but why not turn yourself into a media expert and look at the broader topic of what you can cover?
Why Publicity?
Everyone knows what advertising is but why should they consider publicity? With advertising, YOU direct the message and it’s pretty clear that that is the case because you are paying for it. With publicity, someone else is using you and your expertise as the authority and that gives it more credibility.
Pitching Multiple Media Outlets
How do you your story to multiple media outlets? That’s a question I get asked quite often. Many people feel they have one story and that one story might not fit in every media outlet. It’s up to you to tweak the story so that it works wherever you send it.
Pitch the Media Regularly
Today I am challenging you to start pitching the media regularly. The only way you’re going to have success is to actually do it. Think about what you can pitch the media for the rest of the year. What is happening or will happen related to your industry or your expertise in the coming months that you can position yourself as the expert.
Pitch the Media Today
There’s only one Kardashian family and they aren’t the only people in the media, right? It’s important to realize that PR is not only for celebrities. That’s another myth I want to bash. Yes, we see Hollywood celebrities in the media a lot because Celebrity Sells. You can attach yourself to a celebrity (without any real connection) and land in the press that way. Here’s a video I did on that:
