It’s football season! One of my most favorite times of the year! We’ve been hosting tailgates for close to 20 years and every year it gets better and better. I’ve been doing these tailgating segments annually on Good Morning Washington and it’s usually my favorite products but this year I went with some of our favorite tailgating receipts.

We’ve actually had people scraping the hoagie dip out of the bread bowl with a spoon. This is a must-have for all your games!

No grill? No worries! I’ve got you covered with our oven sliders. These are a HUGE hit either at games or even at home hosting for an away game. Get creative and fry some onions or bacon and add those on top before you serve them.

Frito chili bags are probably the biggest tailgate hit we have. Cook up any of your favorite chili recipes and pour some in the Fritos bag, top with your favorites – cheese, cheddar, onions – eat with a plastic spoon and toss when you’re done.

Last but not least, make these super easy yummy football brownies and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Recipes

Mary Alice’s Hoagie Dip

1 medium onion

2 pickled pepperoncini peppers

1/2 head iceberg lettuce

1 large tomato, halved and seeded

1/4 pound deli-sliced genoa salami

1/4 pound deli-sliced ham

1/4 pound deli-sliced prosciutto

1/4 pound deli-sliced roast turkey

1/4 pound deli-sliced provolone cheese

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1 10-to-12-inch round loaf Italian bread

8 hoagie rolls, cut into pieces, for dipping

  1. Chop the onion, pepperoncini, lettuce and tomato into bite-size pieces. Dice the meats and cheese.
  2. Combine the chopped vegetables, meats and cheese in a large bowl. Add the mayonnaise, olive oil, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes and stir until everything is all mixed up and tasty. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  3. Carve out the center of the bread loaf to make a bowl (don’t cut through the bottom) and cut the scraps into bite-size pieces. Serve the hoagie dip in the bread bowl, with the extra bread and hoagie rolls

Oven Sliders

1-1/4 lb ground beef

2-3T Montreal Steak Seasoning

2-3T Dried Minced Onion

1T Worcestershire Sauce

6 slices of cheddar cheese

12 pack of slider buns

Mix Beef and spices. Spray a 9×13 glass pan with cooking spray. Evenly press meat into the pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, drain juices, top with cheese. Bake for 5 minutes to melt cheese. Take the tops off the slider buns. Lay the meat on the bottoms. Put the slider tops on and slice along the sides of the buns to cut the meat.

Extras: Can add cooked bacon or fried onions

Your favorite chili recipe

Mini Frito bags

Condiments: sour cream, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, onion

Plastic spoons

Brownie Footballs

Store-bought brownie mix

Tube of white icing

Make brownie mix according to box directions. Grease mini muffin tins. Use a 2-3 tablespoon ice cream scoop to put brownie batter in each. Cook according to box directions. Use icing to make football laces.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs

1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips

12-14 large strawberries

1/4 cup white chocolate chips (or an easy hack is vanilla icing in a tube)

Wax paper

In a microwave-safe bowl or mug melt the dark chocolate chips according to directions (usually 30 seconds at half power until melted, stir in between sessions). Grab dry strawberry by the leaves and dip fully and circle to get the strawberry fully coated. Place on wax paper until hardened. Melt the white chocolate the same way (but start with less time – 20 seconds. White chocolate can be “finicky”). Fill a small piping bag. Do one line across the top, one line across the middle, one line down the middle (not touching the top two) then go across to make football laces.
