The media loves passion. Dig deep and uncover what inspires you. When I invented CastMedic Designs, I was so excited. I can’t tell you how much media coverage I landed because journalists loved my passion about the product. One of my most successful media hits was a trade publication called, Lower Extremity Today. It goes out to tens of thousands of podiatrists – my target market. I got the editor on the phone (yes, I practice what I preach) and he put me in that magazine. He said he’d never met anyone so passionate about what they do. Keep in mind that this is a medical publication with medical devices and current research on podiatry and he put in my fashion accessories for medical boots. That put me on the map in the medical field. This was all because of my passion.
So think about what drives you. What gets you up in the morning? Let that shine through when you pitch the media. When you pitch television, they love personality, opinions, people who can engage their audience. Use your knowledge and passion and put that into your pitches.
When I was on the Steve Harvey Show, one of the guests with me was really flat and quiet. The producer actually said to her, “I need the woman on the tape with all of that energy or I’m not going to put you on the show.” Remember, the media will check you out before they use you and when they find you and like your personality, your conviction, your passion, you need to bring it with you and do the same on television.

They don’t want the same old – boring boring. They want the passion. They want the fire, especially on television. They really want to see your personality come through. So I want you to really think about what inspires you? What just gets you up in the morning? And use that passion in your media pitches.
